2017 is coming to an end & left us with a slew of great games! 2018 is setting up to be a great year for games & there is so many, that you might not even be aware some exist! Over the next couple of weeks, I will showcase games that are due to be released in 2018 that have me wishing it was their release today! Some of the titles are ones you have heard of, others maybe niche, but all will be played on Day 1! First up is Dynasty Warriors 9, which is the closest title to launch on my list!

Dynasty Warriors 9

Release date: February 13th

Systems: PS4, XB1, & Win/PC

Koei-Tecmo might have missed releasing something special for the 20-year anniversary of the franchise, but all eyes are on 2018! It has been almost 4 years since the last entry of Dynasty Warriors came out for North American consoles, with Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends dropping in March of 2014. Dynasty Warriors 9 brings back the classic over the top button mashing, hack & slash mechanics from previous games, but in a new way. The new State Combo System brings in new Flow, Reactive and Trigger attacks that respond to the enemy and situations brought to you via the battlefield.

The biggest change coming in the series is the new huge, single map, open world. With the new open world map, you can use different methods of strategy to start or enter in battles, like an ambush from an elevated location or sneaking behind the enemy at night. All 83 playable characters from Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires are returning in 9, along with (so far) 7 new characters! Fan demanded Cheng Pu & Xu Sheng for Wu; the lone female newcomer Xin Xianying is apart of Jin; Cao Xiu, Xun You & Man Chong for the Kingdom of Wei; Zhou Cang arrives for Shu.           New characters

If tI were to have any reservations about this title, it is the amount of what appears to be cloned weapons & movesets, with some weapons being on 3 characters total. I am afraid the lack of uniqueness that 8 had will make 9 appealing, despite all of the new changes to the combat system & map. There is no doubt that Koei Tecmo put in a lot of work with this huge overhaul of their system, & I can’t wait to pursue Lu Bu then run away on the open world map!

Pursue Lu Bu
